France became the latest team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup last night, waltzing through as the winners of Group D and setting up Ukraine and Iceland for a winner-takes-all match on Sunday night to grab a playoff spot (though a draw would see Iceland progress on goal difference).

The next few days will see a number of similar encounters, where the four-year cycle either comes to fruition or comes to an end.

Italy vs Norway at the San Siro is the headliner on Sunday night, though the Azzurri would need to win by eight goals to leapfrog the Norwegians atop Group I.

Nigeria will play DR Congo on Sunday for a place in the Intercontinental Playoff.

We’ve got a lot of stuff below the paywall today, so no long intro, but there is a belter on a massive club in crisis is coming next week.
